Quality is a precise root-third-fifth formula
Major is 0-4-7, minor 0-3-7, diminished 0-3-6, and augmented 0-4-8 semitones from the root. Name notes before selecting a shape.
Root position places the root lowest; first inversion places the third lowest; second inversion places the fifth lowest. Inversion changes voicing, not chord identity.
