What you will learn
Locate and play one named major chord through all five CAGED regions, identify roots, thirds, and fifths, derive nearby arpeggio and major-scale tones, and revoice a three-section song across at least three registers.
Why this matters: CAGED is useful when it connects pitch identity, interval function, and register. Shape names are temporary landmarks; the musical goal is choosing where the same harmony should sound.

Five regions overlap into one fretboard
The open C, A, G, E, and D chord forms can be moved to describe five neighboring regions for one major harmony. The form name describes interval geometry, not the sounding chord name.
Anchor each region with named roots and chord tones. Use partial voicings when they make register, tone, or physical comfort clearer; do not treat difficult full grips as the definition of knowledge.

Name roots on strings 5 and 2, thirds on strings 4 and 1, and the fifth on string 3. The interval map matters more than the outline.
